Background

Global investment firm Brookfield has announced that Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, has anchored the first close of its new private equity fund focused on the Middle East, helping raise around two billion dollars alongside other institutional investors.

The new fund, Brookfield Middle East Partners, will invest in businesses across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East region, with a particular focus on high-growth markets within the Gulf Cooperation Council. The fund aims to direct half of its total investments into Saudi Arabia as the kingdom continues to attract global capital.

Through its offices in Riyadh and its broader international network, Brookfield plans to pursue buyouts, minority growth investments and other opportunities across sectors including financial services, industrials, technology, consumer services and healthcare.

The Public Investment Fund’s involvement forms part of its wider strategy to deepen partnerships with global investors, diversify the domestic capital market and expand financing options for local businesses. A senior PIF official said the partnership with Brookfield was designed to help anchor international private equity in the region, support local deal flow and bring global expertise into the domestic investment ecosystem.

Brookfield’s chief executive said the company has been active in the Middle East for nearly three decades and sees strong opportunities to help regional businesses grow over the long term. Brookfield is contributing 500 million dollars to the fund as part of its commitment to align with its partners.

As part of the initiative, Brookfield will also introduce its training platform, Brookfield Academy, in Saudi Arabia to support the development of local professionals.
